Thousands of years ago, small bands of Native Americans lived in bark-covered huts along the rivers and shores of the Carolina Coastline. One such culture harvested fish, oysters and turtles from a body of water we now call Hamlin Sound. From the deposits that form a shell ring, we can only imagine the purity of this time stretching back nearly 5,000 years ago.
Decades passed, and this extraordinary location had returned once again to its most natural state of diverse, exotic vegetation and to the rule of its many coastal creatures.
